Which weight gainer wins?
Real Gains is developed by Universal Nutrition. It is a powerful mass supporting formula that created for the hardcore lifter in mind. It contains more calories, more protein, and more good fats and way less sugar. They only use the finest whey protein and micellar casein available to create a truly effective formula. Additionally, an amino acid profile helps with additional muscle building efforts.
Each serving also includes a large amount of complex carbohydrates to help feed the muscles helping them to grow and expand. The formula also includes a dietary fiber called, inulin, that helps digest all the protein carbs and fat. Finally, medium chain triglycerides and flaxseed oil and added to help in hormone production, cell membrane protection and overall growth and nutritional requirements.
Serious Mass is essentially exactly what it says it is…serious. It is truly a mass gaining formula in every sense of it. This is because of it 1,250 Calories per serving, along with 50 grams of blended protein. This supplement is the highest caloric protein blend made by Optimum Nutrition.
By easily adding so many extra calories to the diet, those looking to add massive bulk on their frame can finally achieve those goals. There are over 250 grams of Carbohydrates in this formula, roughly 25 vitamins and essential minerals, as well as other crucial muscle building ingredients.
Real Gains contains 600 calories per serving, 45 of which come form fat. Each serving contains 52 grams of protein in the form of a Protein Complex. This is a blend of Ultra Filtrated Whey Concentrate, Micellar Casein and Whey Protein Isolate.
Per 100 grams of protein, this formula will provide a healty dose of BCAA’s to help fuel protein synthesis. Each serving also provides 87 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of which are form fiber and 9 grams coming from sugar. The carbohydrate is solely from Maltodextrin. Finally, flaxseed powder addresses the MCT in this formula.
Serious Mass contains a lot of calories and protein and is probably one of the best values per serving, from a caloric standpoint. It contains 50 grams of blended protein, which consists of Whey Protein Concentrate, Calcium Caseinate, Egg Albumin and Sweet Dairy Whey.
There are 254 grams of carbohydrates, 21 grams of which are sugars and 4 grams of the whole formula are fat. There is also the addition of essential vitamins; A, C, D, E, B and minerals like; Calcium, Iron, Iodine, Copper and Zinc. All of this amounts to a heaping 1,250 Calories pre serving. Which, by the way, is exactly what the serving size is, 2 heaping scoops, to be consumed after workouts or as a meal replacement.
It may be a little difficult to compare these two formulas accurately. While in the case of Serious Mass we have a high carbohydrate content and overall higher caloric content. The formula for Real Gains contains more protein, more carbs and more fat. Most notably, it also contains less sugar.
While both formulas are rather lack luster, neither providing anything new or creative, there are some significant draw backs to both. Serious Mass contains a lot of calories and sugars, which some might argue is too much! And Real Gains contains artificial flavorings and colorings which are just unnecessary.
Healthy adults should not experience any negative side effects with either formula. Especially if taken according to the instructions and along side a regular weight lifting routine. If not taken according to the instructions, or not along side a steady exercise routine it could very easily result in bloating and fat gain.
The huge amounts of protein make it difficult to digest in one sitting. Basically, mass-gainers are for those that are serious lifters and just can’t physically eat enough.
Real Gains is part of the Universal Nutrition line of supplements, which has a strong reputation and many devoted followers. This mass gaining supplement is by far a fan favorite and has been for years. Overall it receives very high scores for its mass gaining abilities and for it’s affordability.
A reviewer who gave it a 8/10 said simply that;
“this product is great and very affordable for the bulking. been using for over 2 years now.” Short and too the point! Just like the product, not much to it but gets the job done.
Serious Mass has overall solid reviews. There are many that can back up the claim that this supplement can help pack on serious size. Afterall, it has the formula to show for it. Most common among the reviews are that it is a very affordable bulking supplement.
A reviewer best described it a;
“hands down one of the best deals you can find for those of you trying to gain weight.”
So, which one is better?
Honestly, I can’t say that one is better than the other. While Serious Mass is giving more calories and carbs it is also loaded with sugars. And Real Gains can provide more protein, and healthier fats; it is a less than quality carb content and contains too many fillers and artificial colors.
Frankly, I would decline both of these products for one of the many other mass gainers out there with a better formula. The only thing that I believe either of these products have going for them is their cost. If you are on a budget and looking for a easy way to boost your caloric, protein and carb content then either will be a fine choice.
