Which weight gainer is better?
Pro Complex Gainer comes from the well-known and trusted supplement manufacturer, Optimum Nutrition. Like it’s fellow mass gainers, it consists of blended proteins. However, this “complex” blend also includes BCAA’s and Glutamine to help address the recovery needs of athletes and fitness professionals.
These ingredients will ensure that no day of lifting is wasted, that the muscles are fully replenished and ready for the next day, without skipping a beat. This supplement is also a very easy way of delivering calories, protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. It can be used as the regular post-workout shake or as a high protein meal replacement.
IsoPure Mass is a fully loaded mass building supplement that uses state of the art protein to drive massive results. It contains 86 grams of carbohydrates, 600 calories and 53 grams of only the purest whey protein isolate. Furthermore, it is free of lactose and gluten, reducing the potential of allergy issues.
The goal of this mass builder is to help put on solid muscle mass along side a regular workout routine, rather than getting too bulky and bloated. Additionally, it contains muscle building ingredients like L-Glutamine and naturally occurring BCAA’s. This will ensure that the body is getting everything it could need to build a solid frame.
IsoPure uses protein that has gone through a microfiltration process to produce it’s form of whey protein isolate. The result is the only completely clear form of whey protein when dissolved in water. Most of all, it is easy to drink, making taking such large quantities of protein much simpler.
Pro Complex Gainer has protein to carbohydrate ratio of 1.4 grams to 1 gram. This is in the ideal ratio for developing lean muscle mass, while preventing the consumption of excess carbs, which will lead ultimately to fat storage.
The blend of protein used is a good blend, but it is all-over the place, rather than using one or two forms of whey protein, which is preferable. The Protein Blend is 60 grams per serving and contains; Whey Isolate, Whey Concentrate, Calcium Caseinate, Egg Albumen, Hydrolyzed Whey peptides and Glutamine peptides.
It has very little fat per serving, which is very important in a mass gainer. As well is cholesterol and sugar. This mass gainer also includes BCAA’s and a natural source of L-Glutamine. These ingredients have a two-fold effect. First it aids in recovery, so that you can get back to the weights quicker. Second, it helps build lean muscle mass by giving the protein the amino acids necessary to do their job.
IsoPure Mass is like many of the other Mass builders out o the market in that it contains more than protein. Each serving will provide a multitude of vitamin and minerals to support overall health. However, the big players in any mass builder are; protein, carbs, fat, and calories.
Each serving of IsoPure contains 53 grams of 100% pure whey protein isolate, derived from a unique microfiltration process. Along with that protein each serving will provide 86 grams of carbohydrates, which includes 4 grams of fiber and 3 grams of sugar.
The majority of the carbohydrates come from maltodextrin. Overall there are 600 calories per serving, 45 of those are coming from fat.
When trying to compare these two formulas, it may not be all that meets the eye. Honestly, if we were just going by protein alone, it would appear that IsoPure is the superior product. After all, it is using a single source of whey protein, which is preferable. However, if we were to look a little closer at the formula you will see it is “filled” with some unnecessary ingredients.
For instance, the main ingredient is maltodextrin, which is the main source of carbohydrates. This is not preferable. Pro Complex Gainer, may contain a blend of proteins, but they do not “fill” their formula to produce calories. Additionally, Pro Complex contains more protein per serving, as well as the same amount of BCAA’s and Glutamine contained in both formulas.
If you knowingly suffer from allergies to eggs, milk, soy or wheat, you should just avoid Pro Complex Gainer, not so much for IsoPure Mass. However, if you do not suffer from these allergies most healthy adults will be fine taking these supplements. If not taken according to the instructions, or not along side a steady exercise routine it could very easily result in bloating and fat gain.
Additionally, stomachaches and frequent trips to the toilet could be a result of overdosing on these protein rich supplements. Basically, because your body will have a difficult time breaking down so much protein at once and just send it out. Basically, mass-gainers are for those that are serious lifters and just can’t physically eat enough, or are genetically pre-disposed to being skinny.
Pro Complex Gainer is more than just a mass gainer, but still provides a healthy bulk. With it’s complex formula it provides the absolute sweet spot for bulking up and adding on mass in the right way. It has received very steady positive reviews over the years.
To which one person said;
“The ingredient profile is sound. I didn’t want a gainer loaded with calories/fat/carbs, so this was a perfect ‘lean’ gainer option. At 650 calories, only 8g of fat, 85g of carbs and 60g of protein you can see it’s a solid formula for gaining some lean size as opposed to completely stacking it on.”
IsoPure Mass is unique in that is uses a micro-filtered form of whey protein isolate. This results in a completely absorbed protein when mixed with water. This has led many people to become fast fans of IsoPure and most of their products. When it comes to their mass builder, there is no difference. There are still many positive reviews to support this supplement.
One reviewer who gave it an 8 out of 10 said;
“Good mass gainer with clean ingredients. Serving size is 6 scoops which provides over 50g of protein. This amount of protein in not necessary your body can only use 30-35g of protein per sitting depending on your weight and activity level. I use 3 scoops per serving after a workout, which provides about 27g protein.” While proclaiming it is a good product, acknowledging that it is excessive in it’s serving size.
So, which one is better?
It was hard to see at first, and I was wavering, but the winner is; Pro Complex Gainer. It is true that the competitor, IsoPure Mass, does provide a single source of pure whey protein isolate, and does add the same kind of recovery aids like; BCAA’s and Glutamine.
However, it falls short in creating a truly complete product. It unfortunately adds too much maltodextrin to it’s formula to make up carbohydrates. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, Pro Complex does not do this. So, by default, regardless of the protein blend, Pro Complex is the winner in this battle of the bulk.
