Which weight gainer is better?
Dymatize Elite Mass Gainer is a protein rich anabolic weight/mass gainer. It is specifically designed to provide the right formula for adding on lean muscle mass, helping athletes develop massive size. Additionally, added ingredients help aid in recovery from heavy days in the gym building your physique.
This mass gainer is made of a potent formula that will deliver more protein than most other protein mass gainers on the market. Every serving will provide 55 grams of protein that is delivered to the muscles using a sustained release protein matrix. Additionally, a complex carb matrix, creatine, BCAA’s, and an anabolic lipid complex. All of this wrapped up in 600 calories per servings.
Serious Mass is essentially exactly what it says it is…serious. It is truly a mass gaining formula in every sense of it. This is because of it 1,250 Calories per serving along with 50 grams of blended protein. This supplement is the highest caloric protein blend made by Optimum Nutrition.
By easily adding so many extra calories to the diet, those looking to add massive bulk on their frame can finally achieve those goals. There are over 250 grams of Carbohydrates in this formula, roughly 25 vitamins and essential minerals, as well as other crucial muscle building ingredients.
Dymatize Elite Mass Gainer is unique in that is uses what they call a Premium sustained Delivery Protein Matrix. This is essentially a 54 gram blend of whey protein concentrate, milk protein isolate, whey protein isolate, micellar casein, & egg albumin. As the name suggests, the various blends of protein allow for a steady release of protein after consuming it.
Additionally, the carbohydrate content, which is very important in a mass gainer, is 75 grams in the form of maltodextrin. Also unique to this mass gainer it the Anabolic Lipid Complex, which is a combination of Sunflower creamer, conjugated linoleic acid, & medium chain triglycerides. These ingredients all help to maintain joint fluidity and function.
Finally, a Fiber Blend of corn fiber, and various gums help to maintain proper digestion, and Creatine and BCAA’s to help develop lean muscle mass.
Serious Mass contains a lot of calories and protein and is probably one of the best values per serving, from a caloric standpoint. It contains 50 grams of blended protein, which consists of Whey Protein Concentrate, Calcium Caseinate, Egg Albumin and Sweet Dairy Whey.
There are 254 grams of carbohydrates, 21 grams of which are sugars and 4 grams of the whole formula are fat. There is also the addition of essential vitamins; A, C, D, E, B and minerals like; Calcium, Iron, Iodine, Copper and Zinc. All of this amounts to a heaping, 1,250 Calories pre serving. Which, by the way, is exactly what the serving size is, 2 heaping scoops, to be consumed after workouts or as a meal replacement.
It may be the case that where neither one formula is truly superior over the other. Ultimately, Elite Mass Gainer contains a higher amount of protein per serving, although not by much, but Serious Mass provides more carbohydrates per serving…by a lot. Serious Mass also contains more sugar but less fat than Elite Mass Gainer. Most notably, Elite Mass Gainer contains creatine and BCAA’s. Other than that they are pretty evenly matched formulas, especially in their protein blend choices.
Healthy adults should not experience any negative side effects. If you knowingly suffer from allergies to eggs, milk, soy or wheat, you should just avoid these products. If not taken according to the instructions, or not along side a steady exercise routine it could very easily result in bloating and fat gain. The ample amounts of protein make it difficult to digest in one sitting. Basically, mass-gainers are for those that are serious lifters and just can’t physically eat enough. They are meant to be taken in association with a regular weight lifting routine to experience the desired effects.
Elite Mass Gainer receives pretty high praise, but does get some mixed reviews. Overall, however, it has proven to be effective and building lean muscle mass. Most likely due to it’s addition of BCAA’s and Creatine.
A reviewer, who gave it a solid 10 out of 10, had this to say;
“Dymatize elite mass gainer is one of the best proteins on the market. Great!! for gaining size. Complex carbohydrates, creatine, monohydrate, BCAAS(branched chain amino acids) and vitamins.”
Serious Mass has some seriously mixed reviews. There are many that can back up the claim that this supplement can help pack on serious size. Afterall, it has the formula to show for it. There are, however, many that believe it is all hype and provides little benefit.
There does seem to be one very common aspect among most reviews, and that is the intestinal discomfort that comes so often with excess calories and protein and a serving size of two scoops.
A reviewer best described it as;
“hands down one of the best deals you can find for those of you trying to gain weight.”
So, which one is better?
Admittedly, this was a hard choice. Neither of these mass gaining supplements wowed me! So it forced me to look at the base, and elemental aspects of what makes a good mass gainer. Ultimately, this led me to find that Elite Mass Gainer was the better product.
The reason being that it has a more encompassing ingredient formula that includes not just protein and carbohydrates, but crucial muscle building ingredients like BCAA’s and Creatine. While the protein blend and carb content is important, it’s competitor had a similar formula making that difficult to judge. At the end of the day, I will always go for the mass gainer that does more than gain mass.
